Some gouache trees
Last night, I had an urge to paint some trees. I went for a decorative effect, with one simple one and a somewhat more intricate one. I like them both in different ways. I like the simplicity and colour palette of the first one. But I like the rather geometric details on the second one. I used a One stroke #3/8 brush (for the tree) and an Angle #1/8 brush (for the leaves) for the first tree. And for the second tree I used a Filbert #1/4 for the tree trunk and branches and for most of the green background (with a bit of Round #6 and #1 for the small spaces near the trunk), an Angle #1/8 for the leaves, a Round #1 for the triangles and a Round #6 for the red and orange spots (which may or may not be leaves, depending on your interpretation!).
I love trees and the huge variety of ways they can be drawn and painted, from the very simple, to the decorative, to the intricately detailed. I’ve been drawing trees since I was a young child and I’m sure I’ll be drawing them well into my old age.
